Iceland experiences a volcanic eruption close to the capital of Reykjavík

Iceland’s Division of Civil Safety and Emergency Administration has urged residents to keep away from the Reykjanesbraut freeway on the south-west Reykjanes Peninsula. The freeway connects Larger Reykjavík to Iceland’s Keflavík Worldwide Airport.

The eruption comes after weeks of elevated seismic exercise on the peninsula, with some 400 earthquakes detected within the area on Thursday morning alone, based on the IMO.
